    I don't really know of any "necessary" mods, but I'd recommend: Anarkis Defence Systems (additional combat commands and defence options), Pirate Guild (makes pirates a fair bit more threatening), and Yaki Armada (6-10 Yaki M1's and TL's jump around at random and wreak havoc).
